On her upcoming album Hemland ("Homeland"), Titiyo interprets Swedish songs that have inspired her over the years, songs that also reflect the present time – and her own hopes for the future.

The first single, Sakta lägger båten ut från land ("Slowly the boat sets off from shore"), may have been written by Bob Dylan, but in addition to Titiyo and Daniel Bengtson from Studio Rymden basing it on the version by El Rojo Adios and enhancing its production, she also uses Mikael Wiehe’s Swedish translation.

This year marks ten years since Titiyo’s first full-length album in Swedish – the largely autobiographical 13 gården. Over the past decade, she’s experienced many highlights, such as becoming a mother again, but she has also witnessed how the world and life have changed.

All of this has played a role in the creation of Hemland, the upcoming album where she interprets Swedish songs that have inspired her throughout the years, and that also say something about her and our times – and her own hopes for the future.

“It’s always emotional to record an album, but this time it felt even more intense,” she says. “These are such powerful songs, each expressing so much. And I’ve been through a tough period where I had to really feel and dig deep. In that, it’s been such a comfort to have creativity and this album to hold on to. It feels like I’m entering a new phase now.”
